Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) lets students worldwide experience the excitement of talking directly with crew members of the International Space Station, inspiring them to pursue interests in careers in science, technology, engineering and math, and engaging them with radio science technology through amateur radio. I was fortunate to have this opportunity to volunteer with fellow Amateur Radio operators Bill Scurlock K5GCW, Gary Pritchard W5RTX, Ron van Winkle N5YDX and Steve Orr W5SO. We experimented, practiced and prepared for several months to make sure that the radios, amplifiers, antenna rotator systems, sound mixer and PA systems worked correctly during the short pass of the ISS across our sky in Texas.
