<description>"Exploring" a Nike-Hercules missile launch site. These were active from the late 1950s to the 1970s. They contained anti-aircraft missile able to shoot down aircraft traveling at up to mach 3.1. Some of the missiles even had nuclear warheads to ensure destruction of enemy aircraft no matter the type of countermeasures used. This site had 6 underground magazines and 24 above-ground launchers. These bases were positioned all over the united states. If you look you may be able to find one near you. Here's a video showing what this site once looked like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB1g_4GH1mI Another good link with pictures and info: https://boinkim.wordpress.com/2010/03/24/nike-missile-site/</description>
