After discovering a pack of 10 SMD buttons in my parts bin, I randomly got an idea to build a small analog synth on a perfboard. It's built around a two-2N2222 multivibrator with a capacitor string connected to one of the bases, which allows choosing a different capacitance and thus frequency by pressing one of the seven buttons. The resulting "scale" is pretty unusable for anything serious but does allow playing interesting tunes. A double 10k potentiometer can be used to vary the base bias resistance of the transistors, providing an extra, more precise way of changing the output frequency.
