Ableton Live + Amp Sim Comparison (read description)

Floof Repair Center — Mon, 28 Aug 2023 01:11:28 GMT

Ok so I'm piss poor at recording video properly and forgot to record screen, not application... This means you can't actually see the plugins I used -w-;;

I don't feel like re-recording it, unfortunately. Besides, this was supposed to be a sound comparison anyway, not an in-depth look at any one particular plugin.

Enjoy!! Oops!!!!!!!!!!

They were tested in the following order:

AmpKnob RevC, Bogren Digital
Archetype Petrucci, Neural DSP
Ignite Emissary, STL Tones
Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ Suite, Neural DSP
Amped Roots, ML Sound Lab
Amped Block Letter, ML Sound Lab
Amped ARk, ML Sound Lab

The improv at the end was the John Petrucci plugin with the piezo amp selected (along with shimmer reverb and "crystalized" delay)

Novembeat, Day 30 - "Ultimate Soff 3000" or, "Psychill and Ambient Stuff"

Floof Repair Center — Thu, 01 Dec 2022 03:01:56 GMT

I did it !! I got through the whole damn month and I did the thing!!

i feel like i just finished reading a good book, or like a semester is over with.

now what do I do? ;w;;;

I like this one though. I don't know what I was going for with the key/scale changes. I was mainly dicking around based on what I could remember.

Novembeat, Day 29 - "Soff Soff Soff Soff!"

Floof Repair Center — Wed, 30 Nov 2022 19:51:30 GMT

I forgot to record the audio for the whole damn thing, but I have it for the actual improv at the end, so I'm uploading that part. later on I'll upload the other "silent" portion and put it as an unlisted video here for anyone who would wanna see the patch(es) I used.

edit 2022-11-30: here it is.

Novembeat, Day 28 - "Psy Toasters: The Sequel"

Floof Repair Center — Tue, 29 Nov 2022 07:16:16 GMT

Novembeat, Day 27 - "Synthwavy Something or Other"

Floof Repair Center — Mon, 28 Nov 2022 06:45:08 GMT

Novembeat, Day 26 - "Creepy Bladerunner"

Floof Repair Center — Sun, 27 Nov 2022 11:51:25 GMT

I gotta stop doing these so late.

it ain't much but it's honest work ™️

I wanted to do something but I also learned Something !!

specifically I learned that stacking reverbs and delays in ableton doesn't completely ruin everything like it seems to in fl studio. but they're both programmed diff and there are different algos for both so idk what they do

Novembeat, Day 25 - "Silent Hill or Broken Radio" (headphone warning)

Floof Repair Center — Sat, 26 Nov 2022 07:35:10 GMT

I may or may not see myself using these plugins more over the next couple of days. These are cool af.

the noises one uses real recorded samples from analog recording devices and synthesizers, and I had no idea there was so much movement and character in them.

I made a follow-up "addendum" for this here: https://tech.lgbt/@solarmerps/109408443510804929

Novembeat, Day 24 - "Synth Halo"

Floof Repair Center — Fri, 25 Nov 2022 05:28:05 GMT

my brain completely shut off the moment I pressed record in OBS, so this is extremely underwhelming for what I had intended. fucking hell. toward the second half I was playing around with the chord and scale plugins so I accidentally stumbled across a halo-y arbiter sound

Novembeat, Day 23 - "Whirly Bugs"

Floof Repair Center — Thu, 24 Nov 2022 04:23:21 GMT

i got nothin. it's late, but i still had to make something. decided to poke around with the LFO tool and vocoder

Novembeat, Day 22 - "Psy Toasters"

Floof Repair Center — Wed, 23 Nov 2022 05:58:36 GMT

ok well, i ended up with an actual bass and drum beat but it's much closer to psy trance because i was listening to a mix right before I started on it and now I want to make a whole thing UGH >:c

Novembeat, Day 21 - "UFO Noises"

Floof Repair Center — Tue, 22 Nov 2022 05:02:27 GMT

I got nothin' to say this time. spoopy messin' around. I wanted to do more Beats ™️ but my brain went

MAKE MORE SPOOK

so I did that.

Novembeat, Day 20 - "Even Creepier"

Floof Repair Center — Mon, 21 Nov 2022 05:52:07 GMT

Mainly me poking around with Ableton some more. Then I stumbled across a Nice A F ™️ way of making the spooky happen. So I went with spooky.

idk if hashtags work the same way with peertube so I'm gonna test it here: #novembeat

Novembeat, Day 19 - "Creepy Cave"

Floof Repair Center — Sun, 20 Nov 2022 05:09:32 GMT

I don't really know how to describe this. I keep wanting to do certain things and they don't happen so instead these weird things happen.

I may or may have forgotten to turn my levels down. luckily I think there was a built-in limiter/saturator of some sort so it's not terrible but in the waveform it's noticeable right away

Novembeat, Day 18 - "Some Time Ago, Part 2"

Floof Repair Center — Sat, 19 Nov 2022 05:16:36 GMT

Given how today has gone, and how much I loved yesterday's session with a couple of presets, I wanted to do something like that again, but a little differently.

Anyway here.

Novembeat, Day 17 - "Some Time Ago"

Floof Repair Center — Fri, 18 Nov 2022 04:39:42 GMT

Certain areas of the video have no audio because I'm Awesome[tm] and forgot to record on the other input/output. So the only recordings are the actual improv sections.

Trying to expand my sound palette with granular effects. I've seen them referenced but never really took the time to do anything until recently. Cool stuff to get into!

Novembeat, Day 16 - "Creepy As Frick"

Floof Repair Center — Thu, 17 Nov 2022 15:03:54 GMT

ok so... this is the polar opposite direction.

I heard one single thing and my mind

just

WENT. OH BOY DID IT WENT @w@;

enjoy the #spookybeats

Novembeat, Day 15 - "Even More Soffs"

Floof Repair Center — Wed, 16 Nov 2022 06:34:53 GMT

If you're into soft ambient improv-y Stuff[TM] then this is for u ;w;

The lead in here is kind of loud because I Got Too Into What I Was Doing so I forgot. Sorry!

Novembeat, Day 14 - "Werewolves"

Floof Repair Center — Tue, 15 Nov 2022 05:42:53 GMT

this was partially rushed because I have other things I need to get done tonight, and I got distracted with Something Else earlier, but because I've come this far, I'm not about to let it go uwu so I made something

the pad patch I made I'm gonna have to come back to later and save as a preset because that is a nice heckin' sound

Novembeat, Day 13 - "What"

Floof Repair Center — Mon, 14 Nov 2022 04:32:08 GMT

so earlier today i did fold that laundry. little did I know I would need allergy medicine later to deal with all the dust.

so have some sound conjured from the multidimensional state in which my consciousness currently resides

Novembeat, Day 12 - "Trance Thing"

Floof Repair Center — Sun, 13 Nov 2022 07:56:16 GMT

ok so I gave up toward the end of this (in the video) because it was already over 30 minutes long which means a Very Large Video File.

so I decided this is a good stopping point. for 30 minutes though that was a lot of progress I think? interesting uwu

anyway have another shameless ™️ trance loop
